On March 5, 2024, the European Commission published a report on developments in the EU market for statutory audit services provided by public interest entities. This report should be gradually published in all EU languages.
The report shows that the number of statutory auditors and audit firms in the EU is gradually decreasing. At the same time, high concentration on the market for the provision of statutory audit services to entities of public interest persists. Statutory audit and other assurance services face many challenges in the coming years related to technological developments and new legislative requirements such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
